Katherine Kim was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 2003, and is a proud Korean-American. Katherine earned her first degree black belt at Tucker Tae Kwon Do Center at the age of 13. She is immensely involved in her school, as she is a part of Student Government, Beta Club and Spanish Honors Society. She is also an avid flautist of 6 years, where she performs with her school’s flute ensemble as well as the Dekalb Honor Band. Katherine is a scholar, and has a tremendous passion for mathematics. She has received numerous awards for her proficiency in the subject, which has propelled her to become a founder of her school’s math honor society, Mu Alpha Theta. Katherine aspires to found and operate her own non-profit organization focusing on teaching math to underprivileged or financially unstable kids.
Katherine is a junior at Lakeside High School, where she has maintained above a 4.0 GPA. She has participated and placed in multiple academic and artistic competitions, such as National History Day, Math Tournaments and Science Olympiad. Katherine will begin the Dual Enrollment Program next Fall at Georgia State, where she will take college classes while in High School. Miss Kim is an advocate for the environment, which prompted her to take an AP class in Environmental Science, her sophomore year of high school. Her interest in the environment has fueled a desire to discover more efficient alternative energy sources for the future. In her free time, Katherine enjoys playing ukulele and guitar, as well as biking and volunteeringin her community.
